The Birth of The Market Place
After a year of abandonment when Jandrey's ceased to exist, 124 West Wisconsin Avenue came back to life with the birth of the Market Place in 1984 thanks to a proposition by Bill Paul at a Future of Neenah Development Corporation meeting. Because Jandrey's had been vacant for a year, the idea of a mini-mall downtown was very appealing. The first stores featured in the Market Place were Faye's Fine Jewelry, Ice Cream Land, Lillies, The Market PLace Cafe, Charles Place, and PJ's. In 1988, many of the same stores from 1985 remained in business, but many new stores were added. These stores included Expressions by Shannon, The Linen Boutique, Peerless Launderers and Cleaners Inc., The Toy Box, The Wisconsin Electric Power Co., and The Ameritel Shop.
