124 West Wisconsin Avenue remained vacant after Jandrey's departure until a group of investors decided to remodel the site into a mini-mall called the Marketplace in 1984. With projections of a $200,000 (amounting today to $500,000-$650,000) renovation cost, there were high hopes for the marketplace. When the Marketplace officially opened on November 1, 1984, the development consisted of 11 shops and restaurants. The original stores in the Marketplace were The Marketplace Cafe, The Daily Grind, Ice Cream Land, the Toybox, Peerless Cleaners, P.J's, Charles' Place, Mirabella's Gift Shop, Lillies Lingerie, Faye's Fine Jewelry, and Energize.
In 1990, the Marketplace expanded into the shop next door, combining 120 and 124 West Wisconsin Avenue. This included a hallway which allowed for easier travel. With the marketplace expanding and adding in new stores, the mini-mall had great potential for investors and continued to grow over the years.
